Er muss einen weiteren Trennungsschmerz verkraften, als seine leibliche Mutter mit ihrem deutschen Geliebten in dessen Heimat geht. Nun erst nähern sich die Pflegemutter und das Kind an und entwickeln ein inniges Verhältnis. Um so größer ist der Schrecken, als nach dem Krieg die Nachricht kommt, das Kind müsse nach Finnland zur heimgekehrten Mutter zurück. Erst nach 60 Jahren erfährt der nun alte Mann, dass beide Frauen für ihn nur das Beste wollten. Eine in einer langen Rückblende und eindrucksvollen Landschaftsaufnahmen entwickelte tragische Geschichte vor dem Hintergrund der größten Kinderevakuierung der Geschichte; anrührend, sehr getragen erzählt.
